Fielding Pad My dog has a problem with his pad. It is swollen. 18 months ago he had a 1/4 ins pink spot on his pad.?
When he had the pink spot it was very sore and we took him to the vet. The vet believed his limp was not from the spot but was joint related and treated him for that x-ray etc all OK. The vet did not treat this sore pad but we carpeted his concrete run to avoid abrassion of the pad and it healed in a few weeks. Now (18 months later!) he is limping again in the same way his same pad is swollen. We are going to the vet but I'd like some ideas to help the vet along. 9 Yr old Labrador 35 kg, large frame, not overweight, in the UK. Kenel outdoors and walked mostly in countryside. Sheep and horse in adjacent fields. thanks
There are a few things that could be going on here. There is such a thing as a nail growing back into the pad. There is also a potential that the dogs nails are too long which could be causing pressure down into the pad. There is also a chance there is a splinter in there that could be causing an infection. There is a chance the pad could just be soft or split.
If it's the latter, 3M makes a few things that can coat the pad and harden it up a bit more. Anything else you need to go back to your vet and really push the pad issue and tell them what helped last time.
What types of temperatures do you have there right now? Do you have snow on the ground? Is there a chance the pad was frostbit?
Where in Los Angeles can I buy a baby changing pad for a preschool without having to order it?
