Company Softball Team First Practice NEXT WEEK.?
Hello. I used to coach quite a bit, and I'm now running our company softball team's first and only practice before the season begins. How do I get the most out of the practice with my peers, preparing some that have never played (and a few that have) to play a game with only a single one-hour practice? I am used to having a few weeks of steady practices with kids when I used to coach a few years ago. I want to make certain to address all the fundamentals (base-running, rules, general techniques, etc) while also getting a good feel for different player's abilities and where they should be positioned. Here's the big catch... Not everyone who is going to play in the games will be at the practice! Our practice is next week, and I have a few ideas for general batting practice, fielding drills, and I'll probably to an intro base-running drill with a few of the true newbies. Looking for more ideas and how to make it highly effective and fun for my peers. Thanks!
Take groups of (3-4) and have each group be a team. One team bats while everybody else fields. After 3 outs, next team comes up. Continue until every team has batted. Repeat as desired. This is an easy way to have a scrimmage with game like situations without needing two-full teams. Also people will not be standing around on the field during batting practice bored and uninterested.
