Should I keep pitching?
I am on a softball team and I am the number 1 pitcher (or pitcher they use the most) but I am thinking about quitting. Every one of my friends dont want me to quit. The reason why i want to stop is because I heard of this girl my age who is a pitcher and she got hit in the face with a softball and it killed her. I AM SCARED. I know my only alternative is to wear one of those face masks, BUT I HATE THOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont know what to do I want to keep pitching but at the same time i dont want to HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Definately don't quit. That's not going to help you and you will definately regret it. I got hit three times this summer ( as I am a pitcher as well) and all three of them hurt badly. The first time was right in the gut and i was out for days becuase of internal bruising. The next was in the wrist but I got over that one after about a day. The third time was definately the wake up call. I threw my pitch and the batter hit it and i had no clue where it went so i turned to my 2nd basemen to see if she had it and it hit me on my right side right in the temple. I fell to the ground and literally was not expected to live. But here's the deal....if i would've learned how to properly field the ball right away i would've been able to defend myself and this would've never happened. My suggestion is when you are practicing pitching as soon as you've released and finished practice snapping your glove back up and being in a proper fielders position. It will do you wonders and you will definately not have that bad of fear anymore.
Bottom line is...i promise if you stick with it you won't regret it and your fear will fade.
