Max Long Shell Tortise shell cracked will he be ok?
My russian tortoise has a crack in his shell by his back right foot its about an inch, 1 1/2 max and its bleeding. I put neosporn on it will he be okay?? If not what can I do... He is moving around and is still digging and about how long will it take to get better? What can I do to help him. Only serious answers please! I'm really worried.
If the crack is not huge, then it will repair itself (1.5 inches is not huge). Your responsibilities would be cleaning and disinfecting the wound. After the it is is cleaned with soap and water, you can bandage the wound by taping gauze over it. Repeat this as necessary and make sure that it is securely placed.
Those with tortoise experience will often opt to repair or assist in the repair of the shell themselves by applying medical super glue over the crack. This should be done by someone with experience or veterinarian. Regular super glue is toxic and should not be used.
