Protective Leg What kind of protective boots should I put on my barrel racing horse?
Ok, I know I need to buy bell boots. Do I just put them on his front legs?
Also, do I need to get splint boots? For all 4 legs?
Any other tips with barrel racing would be helpful! I am starting lessons in a few weeks, but if you know of any instructional dvds that would give me some pointers, I would love to know of some.
Some people put both bell boots and splint boots on their barrel horses for extra protection. Really the only reason you need bell boots on the front legs is if your horse has front shoes or if your horse overreaches, otherwise they will just get in the way. Splint boots are a good idea, especially if you are new to barrel racing or if your horse is. You can put just front splint boots on or you can put on all four for extra protection.
