I am afraid to slide in my softball games. I really don't want to let my team down. I have practiced with my dad at the field, just us. But i can't get myself to go down in the game. ANY TIPS PLEASE!
Some people are telling you which leg to tuck, and really it's a personal preference. It's actually genetic. You know how some people cross their arms differently. Some people tuck their left arm in while others tuck their right arm in. That's caused by genetics.
Sit "Indian Style". Whatever leg is underneath is the leg you tuck in. For me, I tuck my left leg in. You should form a 4 with your legs. You want to raise the non-tucked in leg about 2 inches off the ground. If it's too high they'll rule you out. "Kick" your feet out from in front of you. Don't lean back. You'll hit your head and get knocked out (possibly, it's happened to my teammate). You need to slide on your butt. It sounds painful to go down on your butt, but really it's not. Not sliding on your butt causes raspberries. Make sure your hands are in the air no dragging. If you are leaning backwards you won't pop up when you hit the base and if they throw the ball away, you can't get up and run.
