Softballs Never Never played softball and i am a junior?
OK, so i have always wanted to play softball but was never able to because of my health. I wanted to start in fifth grade but my doctors told me to wait a while. By seventh grade i had started volleyball and cheerleading and mydream for softball got put on the back burner. My freshmen year i was out do to a relly bad illness. Now i am a junior and i am going to start playing but i don't know if they are haveing tryouts or not. I'm pretty good at catching but not so good at hitting. Does anyone have any tips. Oh yea, they had about a month of conditioning but i missed the meeting and didn't know about it untill know. the first mandatory practice is on monday. Thanks. Please all positive responses. i know i can do it.
if you're new to a softball program, the first thing you have to do is talk to the head coach. If you've never played, how do you know you're good at catching? You should probably find some way to watch a fast pitch game or two. Its a lot harder than it looks. I've been playing since i was in kinder garden (fast pitch since i was in 4th grade) and im still fighting for a varsity position. I've spent every day of my summer, every weekend, and every night of the off season preparing myself for the next season. Walking into a sport like this usually isn't very successful. I've seen it happen every year. Just don't be too disappointed.
If you really want to go through with this, you'll have to get in shape because you've missed all the conditioning. Go on daily jogs. Lift if you have the proper equipment and know what you're doing, and look for local softball camps and colleges and schools around you. My softball program has been getting together every other day since october and we haven't even picked up a softball/bat/glove. Its been all conditioning. Like i said earlier, talk to your coach. He'll be able to guide you to what you need to do before the season starts.
