A regulation baseball has a circumference of 9 inches; a regulation softball has a circumference of 12 inches.

Find the surface of the baseball in square inches
Find the surface of the softball in square inches
Firstly you will need to find the radius of each ball. To do so, divide its circumference by pi and then halve your answer.
For the baseball, the radius is 9/(pi*2) = 1.432 (to three decimal places)
For the softball, the radius is 12/(pi*2) = 1.910 (to three decimal places)
The volume of a sphere is (4/3)*pi*r^3 and is measured in cubic units (cubic inches in this case)
The surface area of a sphere is 4*pi*r^2 measured in square units (square inches in this case)
To find the volume and surface area of each ball, substitute the corresponding radius (r) value into the appropriate equation.
